Pink Adaptations
I keep meaning to make a pink Breast Cancer Month theme but I keep missing out. Pink Adaptations is one of the freebie ones that I happen to like so I’m borrowing it for a couple of weeks.

Um, no
I officially have a new pet peeve. People who wait until 10pm to call the library for help with an assignment due at 8am and are not only suprised to find out that the reference desk will be closing but expect me to offer to stay and help them.
As if.

Working at night
It sure is less painful to be stuck at the desk for 4 hours tonight than usual. Could it have something to do with the amount of caffiene I’ve had? ;->

I Met Dave’s Good Twin
You know Dave’s the evil one.
His name is David. He’s tall and thin. He has a long beard and he’s a computer geek. He also has some similar manerisms and the same laugh. We interviewed him at work for an open position.

Cheap, Fast, and Disposable
Teal Sunglasses: More about IT:Cheap, Fast, and Disposable | AntonellaPavese.com
The opposite side of that? IT organizations that forget why they’re there: which is to build the tools the company succeeds with. I’ve seen far too many IT organizations that become interested in self-perpetuation. Dilbert’s Mordac lists, and thrives, in too many companies. Their budgets bloat, their staffing escalates, and they build huge moats and walls between them and the customers with process and bureaucracy and standards and forms that they become hated, or feared. and worse, other organizations start sneaking around them and implementing hteir own solutions (be honest: does your engineering organization have it’s own “mini IT” to do things you don’t want to let IT have its hands on? Yeah, I thought so)

perspective
When my former boss would send me to seminars it would piss me off because I saw it as a waste of my time. My new boss has strongly suggested my going to a seminar but I’m not pissed because she’s planning on going too.
Note to self: If I ever have someone working for me, my attitudes will effect theirs no matter how unconsciously.

Hostile Teens
I had to complete a course on harrassment in the workplace. Unfortunately the list of possible things that could create a hostile work invironment didn’t include pre-teen cheerleaders running all over campus making a racket and staring at me like I’m Medusa.
An accidental oversight, I’m sure.

Wish me luck
I have an interview Friday in Cookville. It would put me a lot closer to most of my friends as well as giving me a decent raise. They’ve been very nice on the phone so we’ll see what happens.

Job Application
I sent out an application for a job as an
Assistant Electronic Reference Services Librarian in North Carolina yesterday. It looks like perfect next step for my career and all things being equal, I think I have a pretty good chance at getting it. But when are things equal? Wish me luck! I’m going to need it.

hmmm
On my way into work today, 2 different people mistook me for a student. Which is good… I guess. I just wish I knew if that meant that I look that young or that bad.

Let down
Well crud! I was gearing up to apply for the webmaster job at the library where I work but now there’s a hiring freeze so it’s not going to be filled for a while.
I don’t really want to stay here that badly but the job would have given me professional-level experience and some space to work on myself for a while before I went into the open market.
