I love my new town
We sit outside at restaurants, people walk to the store, tonight I saw a couple of neighbors standing outside talking.
On the other hand, it looks like the electric lock system in my car is going out.

Real Story about my grandmother
Real Story about my grandmother (my dad’s mom)
She had a routine dr visit scheduled last Thursday morning - about 6:20am she called me to come help her up as she’d fallen down and couldn’t wake Dad. (She’s O.K.!) Anyway, I went over and got her up, and checked her out before getting her to bed - she had a red spot on one cheek where she’d hit something on the way down, and I commented that I thought she’d probably have a bruise. A few hours later we’re sitting in the doctor’s waiting room - under the flourescents, I could see that a blue patch was starting to form on her cheek - I looked closely at it and told her, “Yeah, you’re gonna have a big bruise there.” She replies, not in an overly loud voice but plenty loud enough for the receptionist and all the folks sitting nearby to hear: “At least when your Father hits me, he hits me where the bruises won’t show.”
I keep telling her that making jokes like that in a doctors office is like making bomb jokes in an airport.
Oh, well.
Between my dad’s family and my mom, I never stood a chance.

Happy Thanksgiving

I kinda had a problem on the last part of my trip to my grandmother’s. My uncle and a cousin put the donut on and I’ll get a replacement tomorrow. The good news is there’s wireless so I won’t go into complete withdrawal.

More news
My grandfather (Gran Gran) died last night. He’d been doing better for the last few days, had even eaten and put on his glasses yesterday. My grandmother has a doctor’s appointment for her stroke today. I’m wondering if she’ll last till Christmas.
On the one hand I’m in shock. We thought he had a few more weeks left. On the other, the vibrant, outrageous Louisiana Cajun I grew up with has been gone for a couple years.
Coincidently, I picked up my new glasses yesterday. The disparity between my prescriptions makes wearing them make me seasick. In the middle distances I see double. The disparity plus the nearsightedness of my left eye (blind as a bat) makes me eligable to go ahead and have the lens replaced even though I don’t have a cataract. My insurance just won’t pay for it.

A real update
You know that I’m still alive because the directory keeps getting stuff added to it but it’s been a while since I’ve mentioned me. My grandfather does have pancreatic cancer and it’s unlikely he’ll live till Thanksgiving. My grandmother (Mother) had a minor stroke yesterday. She’s not in the hospital but the tests won’t be back until Friday.
I’m not really in the Halloween mood.
- Gmail has imap. Very happy about that.
- OSX 10.5 coming out the 26th. Again very happy.
Other than that and random WoW runs I’m ready for a break from computer-land. Doing a lot of reading.
I did finally process and post a bunch of pictures that had been sitting on my hard-drive as well as some from Tanya’s birthday in Atlanta last weekend. There’s new stuff on every page except “falls.”

A doctor who only does housecalls
Bringing back the housecall (kottke.org)
He’s got no office (housecalls only), takes appointment requests via SMS, email, or IM, handles some follow-ups over video chat, and specializes in the 18-40 age group without traditional health insurance. The goal, states Parkinson, is to “mix the service of an old-time, small town doctor with the latest technology to keep you and your bank account healthy”.

So I had surgery tuesday…
for the cataract that developed because of my partially detached retina 2 years ago. It went well and I’m back at work. Being able to see is kinda weird but my depth perception is all off because I’m not wearing glasses or anything over my right eye to deal with the astigmatism. But I can still type lol.
But am I terribly nerdy for wanting to photoshop out the floaters?

Personal History: Parallel Play: Reporting & Essays: The New Yorker
Actually, it has been a struggle for me to perceive just what these “boxes” were—why they were there, why other people regarded them as important, where their borderlines might be, how to live safely within and without them.
Asperger’s Syndrome from someone who has it. This was the quote that rang closest for me although there was a story he told that sounds exactly like Pat.

Too busy to blog
When I have time to blog, I have nothing to say. When I have stuff to talk about, I have no time. Tanya woke me up a 3 Friday morning to take her to the ER because she had serious pain and nauseau. I having no clue how serious this could be, wasn’t too worried and complied. We got out at 5:30, diagnosis - just her concussion. They drugged her, we came home and went back to bed. Later the idiot insists on coming with me to Knoxville to get my iPhone. *author does inner tap dance* So that’s 6 hours sitting in the car and wheelchair and while she loves hers too, she wonders why she’s so sore today.
How sore?
She had to call me on my phone to wake me up to get her something to take her pain meds with.
That’s things here. We’re playing with our new toys to take our minds off our pain.
But they’re really goooood toys.

The neurologist says Daily Transform Migraines. I have 3 new drugs to take and no caffeine. Luckily, I’m not a big caffeine addict but I will really miss the coke. The stuff I’m supposed to take instead of advil puts me to sleep. Should be interesting in the chinese curse kind of way.
