Dark Knight review *SPOILERS*
His comparison of Nicholson and Ledger’s Jokers is really interesting.
Attentiondeficitdisorderly Too Flat
Ledger’s Joker is a creature in that vein, but instead of being larger than life, he’s smaller than life. I know that seems counterintuitive given the for-the-ages performance he turned in–surely this will be the most-referenced portrayal of a Villain since Anthony Hopkins’s Hannibal Lecter–but what the Joker is is a human being reduced to only cruelty and glee.

The ‘other’ digital TV conversion might cost you - The Red Tape Chronicles - MSNBC.com
Basically, even if you have cable, you’re going to need a box because the cable companies are shutting down analog channels to make more room for digital.

My day
I finally set up a bank account in Georgia and 2 seconds later I remembered that the other bank I had been looking at has an iPhone online interface. Now I really want it even though I would probably never use it.
Also saw Indiana Jones 4 tonight. I liked it. It’s been years since I saw the others so I wasn’t making comparisons. There was plenty of laughs and action and quite a bit that was against the laws of physics.

A Firefly Novel
The Travelin’ Librarian: CC-licensed Firefly FanFic by serious SciFi Author
Established and popular science fiction author Steven Brust has written My Own Kind of Freedom: A Firefly Novel and released it under CreativeCommons on his Web site. (.doc & .pdf) I’ve also uploaded the PDF version to my Scribd account. I’ve not started reading it yet but I’ve got it loaded on my Sony Reader so I’ll be getting to it soon.

Shelfari spam: “basically social networking rapists”
Thingology (LibraryThing’s ideas blog): Shelfari spam: “basically social networking rapists”
We respect our competitors with one exception: the site “Shelfari.com.” We have always spoken our mind, so here’s a piece of it: Shelfari has gained traction by engaging in unethical practices, including astroturfing (posting on blogs pretending to be users, not employees*) and putting out press releases about how they invented the idea. But the worst has been their spamming campaign. These are strong accusations, but provable. This post lays out fifty-one posts that show they are, in the words of the well-known blog Gawker, “basically social networking rapists.”
Fortunately, one of the things they got right was putting an option to delete your account in the prefs. I just did.

Which TV Shows will be affected by the writers strike
Unfortunately, it’s not a comprehensive list. Just the most popular shows.
The TV Grid - Los Angeles Times
The writers’ strike will take an immediate toll on television viewers’ favorite programs, dealing a setback to shows that are written day-to-day — such as Jon Stewart’s “The Daily Show” — as well as scripted programming already underway or about to go into production.

Amazon Launches Digital Music Store
Amazon Launches Digital Music Store - New York Times
Amazon.com Inc. launched its much-anticipated digital music store Tuesday, a move analysts say represents the first hint of real competition for Apple Inc.’s market-leading iTunes.Amazon MP3, as the new section of the Web retailer’s site is called, currently stocks nearly 2.3 million songs, all without copy-protection technology. Shoppers can buy and download individual songs or entire albums. The tracks can be copied to multiple computers, burned onto CDs and played on most types of PCs and portable devices, including the iPod and Microsoft Corp.’s Zune.
Songs cost 89 cents to 99 cents each and albums sell for $5.99 to $9.99.
Major music labels Universal Music Group and EMI Music have signed on to sell their tracks on Amazon, as have thousands of independent labels. The company said several labels are selling their artists’ music without copy protection for the first time on the Amazon store, including Alison Krauss on Rounder Records and Ani Difranco on Righteous Babe Records.

eMusic selling DRM-free Random House audiobooks - Boing Boing
Random House and eMusic have begun to sell DRM-free audiobooks on their site. This is pretty big news, since iTunes has an exclusive deal with Audible for ebooks, and Audible won’t sell non-DRM ebooks
