Boing Boing: EFF finds HUGE block of hidden info in new iTunes tracks
Apple’s new DRM-free tracks from the iTunes store not only contain your email address and password name in hidden fields, but in at least one case, more than 360k of hidden information. EFF’s technologists have found a hidden block of data in the new iTunes tracks:

Fancy Form Design Using CSS
Fancy Form Design Using CSS [CSS Tutorials]
Forms. Is there any other word that strikes as much fear into the hearts of grown web designers?
I think that the reputation of forms as an untamable, ugly necessity has arisen for two reasons:
- Form elements are derived from native operating system widgets, which makes them particularly difficult to style.
- Forms are often critical to the function of a web site — they’re most often employed as search boxes, inquiry forms, or shopping cart checkouts — and need to function as smoothly as possible in order to meet user expectations.
However, it’s still possible to incorporate both these points into designing a form tailored to the style of the rest of your site. This chapter, which is fresh from The Art and Science of CSS, will explore the ways in which you can design a great-looking form, and provide you with the necessary code, which we’ll work through together.

Scalable CSS Buttons Using PNG and Background Colors
Scalable CSS Buttons Using PNG and Background Colors | David’s kitchen
There has been a lot of talk about CSS buttons lately. Very understandable, since there are a lot of web applications being developed today that could benefit from slick looking buttons without loss in accessibility. Before jumping on the train myself, I just want to emphasize that you should not use this technique to replace real form buttons unless you know what you are doing. That said, the script I am providing to this article can create the same stylish buttons out of boring input buttons as well as plain anchors.
Not Another CSS Button Article!
I know, it’s been a lot of articles lately about CSS buttons. But I simply felt the need to write about something that has not yet been covered in the latest button-trend: Dynamic CSS Buttons using PNG, transparency and background colors that degrades nicely and supports full scalability. With full scalability I mean it should resize in all directions according to the font size and content
It’s a very nice effect with absolutely clean html and linked javascript.

CyberExtruder
CyberExtruder Puts You Into SL on the Easy - Second Life Insider
Utilizing their proprietary software, CyberExtruder will take a resident’s photograph and turn it into a wearable skin for their avatar.
It’s not clear whether this will be a free or paid service. CyberExtruder is also planning on offering free space on their island to graphics artists who are willing to partner with CE to offer residents a wide range of avatar customization services, including animation.
Custom avatars that look like yourself are popular for business purposes. But they are expensive and time consuming to even find a creator whose style is to your taste and who can fit you in, much less the custom work. If Avatar Island is what they claim, everything needed will be in one place.

300+ Easily Installed Free Fonts for Ubuntu
300+ Easily Installed Free Fonts for Ubuntu « Ubuntu Blog
Ubuntu offers a lot of fonts, in addition to the defaults installed, and the MicroSoft msttcorefonts package, in its repositories. All these fonts mentioned here are provided as packages, which can easily installed using command line tools like apt-get or using Synaptic. These fonts will come in handy for designing flyers, or for designing headers and graphics for the web using the Gimp. Also, some of these fonts are pretty commonly used to render pages, like Lucida.

Why Our Education System is Failing Us
Why Our Education System is Failing Us « Personal Growth & Personal Development
Today’s school system is built upon a foundation that was created over 100 years ago. Unfortunately, it has changed very little since being formed during the Industrial Age.
We still hold millions of kids hostage for approximately 35 hours a week. Students are ushered from room to room by the sound of an annoying bell and worst of all, students and teachers are working around an outdated system that was designed to produce industrial workers.
Takes an interesting, and for me, new viewpoint on the problems schools are facing. Mentions some things I remember from my own childhood. My aunt is homeschooling all 4 of her children because even the “gifted” programs at the schools in her area aren’t adequate for them.

Rediscovering the Button Element
Particletree » Rediscovering the Button Element
As is, the input with the type=”submit” is either too ugly (Firefox), a little buggy (Internet Explorer) or completely inflexible (Safari). The solution for most is to use image inputs and create the damn things ourselves. And it’s unfortunate, because then we’re reduced to the tedious tasks of opening up Photoshop every time we’re in need of a new button. What we need is something better—something more flexible and meant for designers. Lucky for us, the solution already exists and all it needs is a little love. My friends, let me introduce you to my little friend : the
