Holiday Weekend
Overall, It’s been a good weekend. I got to sleep late. I went to both my grandmothers’ houses and it was surprisingly non-painful. Friday night, I went to my Aunt Bobby’s house for a spagetti dinner. Got to see some family members that haven’t come to town in years. Mom had a great time trading stories.
Today, a guy knocked on the door with a dog in his arms. She looks like Teddy except her face is different and she’s half his size. We’re hoping one of the vets in the area will recognize her on Monday. If we wind up stuck with her, she’ll definately be my puppy. She’s terrified of Teddy and Wally and they’re both so possesive of Mom that she only feels safe with me. I wanted a puppy but not yet.

Dad Update
Went to see dad yesterday. They’ve got him in just a neck brace now. He has a hard time eating and stuff though. He’s doing occupational therapy in the mornings for his hands (alternately numb and phantom sensations) and physical therapy in the afternoons to get him to walk again. He looked bad. I feel guilty for not visiting sooner but he said he didn’t want me to. It’s uncomfortable because we don’t have anything to talk about. He wasn’t interested in being a father until I was 25 and by then I wasn’t interested in having one. We still don’t have much in common.

so much to say
I keep thinking of things to blog but whenever I try they don’t come out right. Right now I’m trying to figure out why a guy who emailed me went to the trouble of finding my work email address instead of just using the form I set up on my site. It was a nice email and I know who he is so it wasn’t like spam or anything, just weird that apparently he googled me.
Got bored with NWN finally. There a tons of modules but I haven’t cared for the ones I’ve tried. I had high hopes for the official mods released last week but so far they’re winblows only :-(. So I’ve been playing Diablo II again. It’s fun to go from NWN which is role-playing intensive back to Diablo which has no plot to speak of. Go kill things, shop, kill more things. My sorceress is already level 24.
I’m thinking of trying World of Warcraft when it comes out. One thing Blizzard has always done right is to have their games Mac-compatible when they are released. I haven’t been interested in online games but if I can hook up with Lethann before she too far ahead for me to catch up, this one looks like it might be fun.

He’s on morphine and feeling no pain. There’s no paralysis and they’re going to fit the surgery in when they can.

So Saturday night my dad trips over one of his cats and falls down the stairs. He’s in the hospital having surgery today, they think he may have broken his neck. We don’t know anything about his condition or his finances. He was laid off from the job he’d had for 20 years several months ago and he hasn’t gotten a new one. I can’t believe he would be going without full insurance (Have I mentioned he has cancer?) but he hasn’t wanted to talk about it and no one has pressed the issue. We’re pretty sure they wouldn’t be doing surgery this soon if his life was in danger but paralysis could be a real problem. Unless his insurance paid for a nurse, I don’t know how anyone could take care of him.
And how was your weekend?

Job Application
I sent out an application for a job as an
Assistant Electronic Reference Services Librarian in North Carolina yesterday. It looks like perfect next step for my career and all things being equal, I think I have a pretty good chance at getting it. But when are things equal? Wish me luck! I’m going to need it.
