Sunday
Yesterday, I went to my grandparents’ house. My grandmother is recovering from cancer surgery (doing well). A cousin we don’t see often (military brat, now settled in Texas) came up to help her recover. We were all concerned that Wendy would be an extra burden that Mother doesn’t need right now. Instead, she’s bullying Mother into taking her pain medication and resting, and taking care of the house. She’s even volunteered to stay with Mom all day (7a-6p) tomorrow while she’s in the hospital for a heart catheterization.
She wants me and Mom to move to Texas so that we can get out of Memphis (Wendy hates Memphis) and I’ll still have relatives nearby to help. Unfortunately, the humidity would kill me.

Book Reviews
It’s like I have a reading disorder. I haven’t read that much in months but in the last 4 days I’ve gone through three books and started a fourth. I’ve also got an order in with Amazon.
Killer Hair is about a fashion columnist in Washington D.C. The setting is interesting and the main character is very cool. Definately slightly above the usual brain candy.
I read Blade Dancer in one sitting. Great sci-fi setting and the main character kicks major ass. It’s just as cool as the cover.

Macs Less
Linux News: Commentary: Macs Are More Expensive, Right?
So, bottom line, are PCs cheaper than Macs? No, despite what you read in the PC press, it’s the other way around. Compare Apples to apples, and Macs are cheaper than PCs.

Blog Templates
There’s a site, WordPress Styles, that indexes templates for Wordpress, the system I’m currently using to manage this site.
The cool thing is that they’re “plug ‘n play”. You just install the files and automagically your blog has a different look, no customization needed. Also, the styles listed are all beautiful and useable.
Anyway, a while ago, I thought I might make a new style for this site but the result wasn’t really “me.” So Tourquoise and Type have been added to the collection. Check them out and tell me how pretty they are ![]()

New Book Series?
The books: Undead and Unwed and Undead and Unemployed by Mary Janice Davidson. And seriously, if you enjoy a) chick lit or b) vampires or c) all of the above, please go and buy them. You’ll thank me. Rarely have I read a series - chick lit or vampire - that has captivated me so much in so short a time. Well, not since becoming permanently addicted to Laurell K. Hamilton’s books, anyway.
The characters are a hoot, particularly the main character, Betsy, who is a newly dead Queen of Vampires with a shoe fetish. Really. Do I need to say anything more than that? The cast of characters is fresh and appealing, absolutely hilarious, and engaging enough that I wish there were already a dozen more books in the series to plow through.
Emphasis mine. Sounds like fun. I’ve added them to my wish and “to buy lists”.

Boing Boing: Movie theater repurposed as Xbox arcade
Boing Boing: Movie theater repurposed as Xbox arcade
Theater managers took four video projectors, set one up in each of four theaters with a Microsoft XBox video game system connected to it, and then let the fun begin for more than 60 people
This would be so cool.

Boing Boing: You don’t own your iTunes, they 0wn you
Boing Boing: You don’t own your iTunes, they 0wn you
Good blog post on why Apple iTunes DRM — and other DRM systems — that convey the message “you don’t own the music you buy, you merely license it,” make for such unsatisfying experiences.
This is why, as reasonable as the terms seem, I’m not buying from the iTunes store.

Finished
It’s my laptop in a new, better body. If they could figure out how to make it work for humans they could make a mint.
