Is it the light at the end of the tunnel or the train?
I’ve finally got my networking card so that windows can see it without freezing. But now the card won’t connect to the network, even when it can find it. A google search found an article by someone who had a similar problem and was helped by the tech support. Unfortunately, he didn’t go into any detail of the problem or the solution but that’s my next stop when I get home from the doctor.
I found out last night that my pda was no longer loading the new calendar information from my desktop software. Naturally this was just after I had input all of the due dates for the semester plus 2 or 3 actual personal commitments. After a morning of disappoitments, I reinstalled the desktop software and that seems to have fixed it. Cross your fingers.
And the best news is Mom has officially been approved for Social Security. She should get her first check at the end of February or the beginning of March. After that, I should finally be able to start really saving for my move.
So tired and I still havn’t started my homework for weds. ug.

you know this would be funny…
if it happened to someone else.
I’m sitting working on my Visor this weekend (computer still not completely fixed) and it crashes hard. It’s like it’s possessed, rolling through the boot up screen over and over. Finally, the battery died and the loop was cut off. After I recharged it, the system was as clean as if I had just taken it out of the box. Not even the right date and time.
Luckily, I got a backup module for Christmas. I slipped it in and the visor was restored to the exact way it was when the last backup was made, complete with 3rd party apps. Very happy with that gift. So it wasn’t a complete disaster but I was seriously considering a complete mental breakdown for a while.
Went to dinner with Tatiana and Arwen Sat night, had fun and lost my hat.
If I get the bad luck out of the way now, that means I’ll have good luck when I graduate, right?

Delinking myself
I’ve decided to remove the links to my original fiction. The files are still there for now but they will probably go into an archive somewhere eventually. This was a difficult decision for me as my writing was the first content I had on this site.
But it’s been a very long time since I’ve been able to finish a story, or even stay with it for more than a couple of days. Since shortly after I started grad school as a matter of fact.
School takes much of my time and all of my energy. I just don’t have the concentration I used to for projects longer than the fews days for a layout. It’s a pity because there is so much I’d like to learn, and many stories I’d like to tell, if only i thought I could finish.
Perhaps later, after I’m out of school and I’ve had a chance to recharge I’ll be capable of more than short bursts of creativity.
Until then I’m going to relieve the stress of a section so long outdated by letting it go to the far off list of “to do someday.”
That sound you hear
…is my head hitting the nearest flat surface. For the last while, my laptop has been crashing more and more often. When I got the “operating system not found” error, I figured I was in trouble. ScanDisc is no longer finishing. It restarts 10 times, quitting 70% of the way through and reports that another program is writing to the disc. This is after I’ve quit out of everything but the system tray and explorer. After numerous stops and starts, the hard-drive is finally defragged, which seems to have helped somewhat (though scandisc is still not working). But every time I try to reattach my wireless pci card, it restarts in safe mode.
I’ve brought my laptop to work (where it started in safe mode without the card- not good at all) and I’ve borrowed the Norton disk for pcs. Am anxiously awaiting the results now. With luck, it’s not a hardware problem.
On the other hand it would be a good excuse to spend a lot of money I don’t have.
I really need to get this fixed soon so I can concentrate on school.

and it goes
Bill is dead. We don’t know yet what kind of arrangements will be made.
And in other news, my dad’s brother Elvin drove himself to the hospital New Year’s Eve with chest pains. He had over 90% blockage in 2 arteries leading to his heart. The place he worked at for 15 years closed recently with almost no warning and he hasn’t gotten a new job yet. We think his insurance was still in effect but if it wasn’t he’s going to have a lot of trouble.
Mom’s getting jerked around by the insurace company and the Social Security Administration. It’s going to be like 3 months before she gets any money and in the meantime she doesn’t have anything coming in. I’m pretty much supporting us both right now. She says if I wasn’t here she’d be wondering if she should have live through the emboli.
I want out now please.
